Showing your "Holidays in the Vue" spirit may be more elaborate through a float or a simpler take through a walking group. It's up to you - as long as your entry is consistent and supportive of a winter holidays theme and spirit. The crowd will appreciate and be more excited as you walk by if you are creative and original! Festive music is encouraged. And for floats and vehicles, at least 50% surface coverage with seasonal decorations is required. No wreath decor.
Parades include a variety of entries from floats to vehicles like cars, trucks, motorcycles and heavy vehicles to walking groups or performers, like marching bands and dance teams or studios.
It's best to determine what your entry will entail and the time, cost and resources needed. Once you assess what your group is able to do (i.e., how much money you want to spend, the spirit of your presentation and how much time you have), match your group’s resources and intended message and theme.
The least expensive and simplest, can be a walking group - which can also be popular and entertaining. A successful walking group often incorporates creativity or a skit, routine or performance that can be performed several times throughout the course of the parade while walking. Please note, no stopping along the route for performances. Keep moving!
Check out You Tube, Pinterest or search Google for ideas, tips, supplies and decorations for your entry! Common search terms include: "decorating vehicle for Christmas parade," "building a parade float," "walking group or walking float ideas"
Don’t throw candy; but you may hand it out. Throwing or tossing of candy or any other item is NOT allowed due to the risk of a child running to grab the candy and being hit by a vehicle or trailer. Walking participants may hand out candy and other items at the sidewalk only, if this does not cause a safety risk or slow down the parade’s progress.
Judging will be during the Parade - just after the turn from Colice Jeanne Rd on Baugh Rd just before the library. Units will be judged as they pass a judges’ area, so any performances should be done while walking. No stopping to perform.
Award trophies will be given for Best Performance, Most Creative, Most Festive, Judges’ Choice and Best of Show. Awards will be announced on the parade website by 7 p.m. on the day of the parade.
Showcase Your Entry - All entries should display name of your business, school or organization (banner, shirts, hat, or signage), so the crowd knows who you are and you get amazing visibility as a participant in the parade
